Tags

Tags are reusable labels you assign to notes for grouping across categories. Unlike Flags, tags do not send emails or webhooks. Unlike categories, a note can have many tags, and tags do not change where a note lives.

Jade Note does not create or suggest tags automatically. You maintain the vocabulary; connected AI tools can reuse the tags you already have.

Creating a tag

On the Tags page in the sidebar, use Create tag to set a name and an optional description. Descriptions appear as tooltips wherever the tag is shown, and help you (and connected AI tools) choose the right label.

You can rename a tag or update its description later from that tag’s menu. Renaming updates the label everywhere the tag is already assigned.

Deleting a tag removes it from every note that uses it. The notes themselves are not deleted. Tag deletion cannot be undone.

Assigning tags to a note

From inside a note, open the Tags section and use Add tag to pick from tags not yet on that note. You can also assign tags when creating a note. Create new tag names on the Tags page first — the note picker only selects existing tags.

Remove a tag by hovering its chip and clicking ×.

Archived notes keep their tags visible, but assignments are read-only until you restore the note.

Finding notes by tag

• Filter: In the note list, open the filter dialog and select one or more tags. Notes matching any selected tag are shown. Tag filters combine with search, category, flag, importance, and information status using AND.
• Search: The main search box also matches tag names.
• Pills: Click a tag pill on a note card to open a cross-category list of active notes with only that tag selected.

Tag filters are not available in Archive, but archived notes still show their tags.

Limits

• Up to 20 tags per note
• Tag names up to 80 characters; descriptions up to 300 characters
• Filter by up to 20 tags at once

Connected AI tools (MCP)

AI tools connected to Jade Note can list existing tags and assign them when creating or editing notes. They create a new tag definition only when you explicitly ask them to. Assigning a tag never sends a notification.
